SEASONS "LIGHT, LOST"

LIVE AND UNPLUGGED FROM GRIFFITH OBSERVATORY

I love it when I go to do one of these shoots and the band ends up playing one of my favorite songs of theirs... especially when it's a song I wouldn't expect them to be able to perform acoustically. Seasons does just that by busting out not only the acoustic guitars, but a melodica, a glockenspiel and a toy keyboard as well, for their ironically low light performance of "Light, Lost" at the Griffith Observatory.

For those who don’t know, I’ve always been a sucker for artists who are able to effortlessly blend low-fi and electronica to create their own unique sound. Highland Park’s Seasons is definitely one of those bands. And, after listening to tracks like “Light, Lost”, “Real Dreams” and the highly addictive “Song That You Know”, they pretty much had me hooked. Continually refining their sound with each successive EP, I’m really looking forward to what the rest of “Winter” and the inevitable “Fall” will bring.

Do yourself a favor and when your done reading this, go check out the rest of their music. You won’t be sorry.

Here’s what the group had to say about their sound, their upcoming EP and the fate of ex-planet Pluto:

GORILLACOUSTIC: What does the world need to know about Seasons?

SEASONS: That we are 5 cats that formed together as one through mutual residence and acquaintance. We construct music by digesting life and experiencing experiences. Live, we can have anywhere from 5 to 8 people on stage performing songs that express our inner most thoughts and feelings. Oh and we love cats!

GA: You definitely have a sound that's hard to pin down, melding a lot of different styles. What are some of the bands that influence you guys?

S: On a grander scale i think The Flaming Lips, The Beatles and Pavement brought us together in the sense that we all are huge fans of those bands. In the local scene we have to say that The Monolators have always been a band we look up to, and there live shows these days are so full of such amazing energy.

GA: What should people expect from you upcoming Winter EP?

S: The Winter EP is something we are really proud of, and we are really excited for everyone to hear it. It was recorded at Red Rockets Glare by Raymond Richards, who also produced the EP. And it is mastered by the awesome Mark Chalecki. We feel as though Raymond really helped us capture a sound and a mood on this EP and we couldn't be happier with it. Expect a release show at The Echo sometime early June.

GA: Now for some astronomy based questions in honor of our shooting location... Do you think Pluto got jipped when it was stripped of its planet status?

S: YES!! We are still upset over that! That is the bands or i guess was the bands favorite planet.

GA: Favorite Space movies?

S: 2001 A Space Odyssey, and Event Horizon.

GA: If you could do another gorillacoustic performance anywhere else in the world, where would you do it?

S: Stonehenge.

GA: Favorite Season of the year?

S: Winter.
