EVOLOVE "LET ME IN"

LIVE AND UNPLUGGED FROM A BALCONY OVERLOOKING THE CAPITOL RECORDS BUILDING

I’ve known the fine humans from Evolove for going on a year now. At the time they were known as Waiting 4 Wyatt and had a sound that reminded me a bit of Letters to Cleo - fun, poppy rock with strong, confident female vocals.

Since then they’ve changing their name and adopted a much harder edge... a bold move for a band that already had themselves a fine following.

Just named one of the top 100 unsigned bands by Music Connection and a new member of MySpace Records Friends and Family their gamble seems to have paid off of spades. A feat helped not only by being a talented group of musicians, but by being tireless self promoters who remain in constant contact with their ever growing fanbase via Facebook, Twitter and a myriad of other social networking sites.

I finally got the opportunity to see Lucy and the gang perform live at the Viper Room a few weeks back and they put on a hell of a show... despite the fact that the cards seemed to be stacked against them going in. What chance could a female fronted hard rock outfit have performing for a room full of rabid Twilight fans all there to see some other band featuring one of its male stars? A pretty good one apparently. That they quickly won over the crowd and got a record number of new fans signing on after the show is testament to their appeal.

Here’s what singer Lucy Levinsohn had to say about her favorite toys, palindromes and plans for the end of the world:

GORILLACOUSTIC What does the world need to know about Evolove?

LUCY LEVINSOHN: That we mean business. We are all super driven, hard working musicians that LOVE music. That is what I respect most about my bandmates... besides that they are AMAZING musicians of course :)

GA: What is your favorite palindrome (besides EVOLOVE of course)?

LL: Racecar.

GA: In honor of "Toyshop Girl", what were some of your favorite toys growing up?

LL: Depends on what age you are talking about. I don't recal playing with a lot of toys. I did do a lot of arts and crafts and I had a big stuffed Snoopy that I loved. Candyland was my boardgame of choice.

GA: On December 21st (or 23rd depending on who you go by), 2012, will you be in a bunker somewhere hiding out, or outside accepting your fate?

LL: I will probably be at some "End-Of-The-World" type party dancing it up. I know the lyrics to our song 2012 may lead you to believe that I buy into the hype, but I dont really think the world is ending.

GA: If you could choose anywhere else in the world to play, where would it be?

LL: I can’t wait to tour Europe and Asia. Its going to be AMAZING. It’s really hard to choose just one place.

GA: Best brand of Rock’N’Roll hair dye?

LL: You will have to ask my hairdresser, I use whatever she puts on me :) I dont really care what brand is used as long as my hair looks good. In Rock'N'Roll cool hair is pretty top of the list of things to have... besides a hit song.

True.
